Description

Roving Sommelier is passionate about premium quality Australian regional wines. Ben Glaetzer, (son of the legendary Aussie winemaker, Colin Glaetzer), first came onto my radar in the early Noughties when I was working as a wine buyer and head sommelier in London. His intensely powerful, yet elegant red wines certainly left a huge imprint on my palate, and I have very fond memories of meeting him and tasting his wines.

Bishop is the maiden name of Judith Glaetzer, wife of Colin, who started the family’s winemaking tradition in the Barossa Valley 30 years ago. This wine honours Judith’s contribution to the family, which today is carried on by son, Ben.

Bishop is a brooding, evocative, and textured Shiraz. Sourced from the famed northern Barossa vineyards of Ebeneezer, the wine is lush and finely balanced with layers of fresh cassis and dried spice aromas. The supple savoury tannins and bright acidity provide the structure and definition to ensure either rewarding cellaring or immediate approachability and enjoyment.

This full-bodied red wine will reward careful cellaring for a minimum of ten years from vintage. Best enjoyed at room temperature and decanted one hour before service, and with red meats and game dishes in a convivial atmosphere.
