Description

Roving Sommelier loves premium quality sparkling and pink wines from around the world. Even better when these expressive wines are made with love and care. For me, they are ideal for those who prefer their sparkling wines to be playful yet serious. What is more, these delicious sparkling wines are perfect alternatives to traditional Champagne for parties and festivities.

Josef Chromy is a true success story based on hard work, experience, and a deep-seated commitment to creating quality wine. Since arriving as a refugee from Soviet-occupied Czechoslovakia, Josef has been the driving force behind the Tasmanian wine scene.

At 76, when others think of retiring, Josef achieved his life-long dream of establishing a winery under his own name. In just a few short years, he has made a remarkable impact: his wines have been awarded over 14 trophies and 170 medals, making Josef Chromy one of the most successful winery launches in Australian history.

Josef Chromy is a living legend in Tasmania – and the winery is a true success story. Chief winemaker Jeremy Dineen’s style is about showing a true ‘sense of place’.

This wine draws inspiration from Josef’s home of Zdar, near the Bohemian border, as does the label, whose shape originates from the famous pilgrimage monastery of John of Nepomuk who was described as ‘sparkling with miracles’.

Drawing on this heritage, Josef Chromy melds old world tradition with Tasmanian innovation in an expression of new world indulgence. Bottle fermented in the traditional method, the palate is elegant, focused and persistent with wafts of Granny Smith apple and citrus flavours.

Best enjoyed well-chilled with or without food and in a convivial atmosphere.
