Description

Roving Sommelier is passionate about premium quality regional wines. I was introduced to Weingut Leitz in 2006 when I visited the winery in Rudesheim in Germany’s iconic Rheingau wine region along with many other vineyards while on a trip with a group of sommeliers. It was also here that I met Eva Fricke, who was the assistant winemaker at the time while working for Johannes Leitz. Although Eva Fricke has now gone on to make her own wines (of which I’m a big fan), I’ve been following them ever since.

A fossilised dinosaur’s footprint was said to give the name of this south-facing “Drachenstein” (Dragonstone) vineyard overlooking the Rhine. Quartzite rock gives the wine a crisp minerality, poise and elegance. The lemon, lime and peach fruit marry perfectly with Asian and spicy cuisine, seafood, and salads. Or simply enjoy as an aperitif. Unleash the dragon!!

Best enjoyed chilled and in a convivial atmosphere.
