Description

Roving Sommelier is passionate about premium quality regional wines. I adore the truly great wines produced by Springfield Estate and for me, their “Life From Stone” Sauvignon Blanc is one of their most distinctive wines. In fact, it has become a bit of a personal favourite over the years. Currently, the wines are made by 9th generation Huguenots, who came to South Africa from France and settled in Robertson, where Springfield Estate is located.

Every year a small crop is borne on the extremely rocky, calcareous soil of Springfield Estate. Ripened by sunny days and picked during the cool nights unique to this region’s microclimate, a wine of great character and concentration is made.

The minimal yield of a vine rooted in 70% quartz stone is truly reflected in this wine. The flinty, gunpowder nose with its mineral palate will become more pronounced with age.
