Description

Roving Sommelier loves premium quality sparkling and pink wines from around the world. Even better when these expressive wines are made with love and care. For me, they’re ideal for those who prefer their sparkling wines to be playful yet serious.

No longer part of Cava, Llopart are a family winery producing top quality Spanish sparkling wine organically and in the traditional (Champagne) method. One of the nine ‘breakaway’ producers who have formed their own brand, Corpinnat, Llopart aimed to differentiate themselves from some of the low-quality sparkling wine allowed by Cava DO. All grapes are organically farmed and harvested by hand. Fermentation and ageing took place in bottle by ‘traditional method’ (similar method to Champagne) and it spends time on lees to develop complexity and texture.

While this presents an exciting new phase for the estate, the wines really are the star of the show. Beautifully acidic, with white-fleshed fruits and toasted nuts on the palate, they are delicate and creamy expressions of this woefully underrated Spanish wine. Plus, with them being 100% certified organic, what’s not to like!

The roots of Llopart can be traced all the way back to 1385, when Llopart ancestor Bernardus Leopardi was granted some vineyards in the Subirats region of Catalonia. And the importance of family is still strong today, with Pere Llopart keenly watching over their wines even in his 89th year.

Llopart’s elegant style and the unique qualities of the 2018 vintage harvest are reflected in this Brut Reserva with over 20 months ageing in bottle before release. Disgorgement took place in February 2022. This vintage Brut Reserva Corpinnat is made solely from organic grapes mainly sourced from their mountain vineyards in Subirats, and displays an elegant, fruity style with lovely freshness and crisp acidity on the palate. Perfect on its own as an aperitif or with light tapas and nibbles.
