2018 Bodegas Olivares, “Altos de La Hoya”, Jumilla, Spain
Roving Sommelier is passionate about premium quality regional Spanish wines. Bodegas Olivares is a family-owned winery that produces affordable, premium wines in the province of Jumilla DO, South-east Spain. The wine is full-bodied and powerful, yet elegant and fruity with rustic charm. What’s more, it is a single vineyard wine produced from ancient ungrafted Monastrell vines sourced from the top lots within the Hoya de Santa Ana vineyard. The vineyard has a unique microclimate and the grapes are grown at an altitude of 825 metres above sea level, which brings a distinct flavour and freshness to the wine. Monastrell is the classic grape of the Jumilla region and with the Altos de La Hoya it is captured to be the essence of this very special terroir. The best grapes are chosen and spend around six months in French oak casks before bottling. Best enjoyed with food and in a convivial atmosphere.
