Description

Roving Sommelier loves premium quality sparkling wines from around the world. Even better when these expressive wines are made with love and care in England and Wales. For me, they are ideal for those who prefer their sparkling wines to be playful yet serious and perfect for parties and celebrations.

Right now, this is arguably one of the finest traditional method English sparkling wines in the country produced by award-winning winemaker Dermot Sugrue, who has been hailed as England’s finest winemaker. The 2015 is the sixth vintage of Sugrue South Downs and the third to feature fruit from the exceptional Mount Harry Vineyard near Lewes in East Sussex, combined with the original Storrington Priory Vineyard in West Sussex.

This multi-award-winning sparkling wine is a blend of 60% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Noir from vineyards planted on South Downs chalk in 2006, aged in old oak barrels and stainless steel. Very limited production due to a very small vintage harvest producing only 3,000 bottles compared to 8,000 produced in 2014. Disgorgement date: June 2020.

This English sparkling wine is to be enjoyed in a convivial atmosphere.
