Roving Sommelier is passionate about premium quality New Zealand regional wines. Craggy Range is a family owned winery specialising in the production of expressive single vineyard wines. This Syrah is based on grapes grown in the most stony and densely cultivated part of our Gimblett Gravels vineyard. These vines have been cultivated from a heritage clone that was brought to New Zealand more than 150 years ago and produce wines with wonderful floral, pepper and black fruit aromatics, lushness and density on the palate and fine natural acidity. The wine is made as naturally as possible and aged in French oak barriques for up to 16 months.
“Le Sol” (the soil) is made only in the best years from supremely ripe Syrah grapes growing in the heart of the Gimblett Gravels vineyard in Hawke’s Bay. The vineyard is hand harvested in several passes late in the growing season and only the best and ripest bunches are selected for this rare prestige cuvée. Rich, evocative, yet still refined “Le Sol” will reward careful cellaring for a minimum of ten years from vintage. A wonderful accompaniment to flavoursome red meats and game dishes. In addition, I suggest you carefully decant this wine prior to service and best enjoyed in a convivial atmosphere.
