Roving Sommelier is passionate about premium quality Australian regional wines. Pierro was established in the 1970s by Dr Mike Peterkin. The vineyard, which is in the famous Margaret River wine region in Western Australia, has gone to achieve a great reputation among wine lovers, especially for their authentic Bordeaux blend reds, mouth-watering Riesling and fine Chardonnay.

The 1994 Pierro Cabernets was produced from five different Bordelais varieties with each making a distinctive contribution to the resultant wine. Cabernet Sauvignon for its power and longevity; Cabernet Franc for its fragrance and delicacy; Merlot adds richness and opulence; Petit Verdot tannin and acidity, and Malbec colour and softness. Maturation for several months in new French oak has resulted in added complexity and structure. This flavoursome red has evolved beautifully and is now fully mature with each component perfectly balanced.

I suggest you decant this wine at least one hour before service. Best enjoyed with red meats and game dishes and in a convivial atmosphere.
