Description

Roving Sommelier loves premium quality sparkling and pink wines from around the world. Even better when these expressive wines are made with love and care. For me, they’re ideal for those who prefer their sparkling wines to be playful yet serious. They are perfect alternatives to traditional Champagne for parties and festivities.

This wonderful family-owned domaine located at Clos des Quarterons in quaint little St Nicolas de Bourgeuil in the picturesque Loire Valley in northern France. Yes, the Amirault family are probably most famous for their Cabernet Franc-based reds of the local appellation of St Nicolas de Bourgeuil, and have been making wine for around 180 years, but they produce a really cracking traditional method sparkling wine too. “Les Quarterons” is made in a Brut style and is produced from biodynamically farmed Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay grapes. Each grape variety is hand-harvested and vinified separately before they are carefully blended to give the Crémant du Clos des Quarterons its unique character. To allow it to develop its fine bubbles, the wine undergoes a second fermentation in the bottle before being left for at least 36 months on its lees. Perfect as an a aperitif and a great alternative to Champagne.

Best enjoyed well-chilled with or without food and in a convivial atmosphere.
