Description

Roving Sommelier is passionate about premium quality regional wines. For me, Dönnhoff is one of the best producers of Riesling in Germany. In fact, Helmut Dönnhoff, who has been making wine at the Oberhauser-based estate since 1971, is regarded as a bit of a wine legend. A member of the Dönnhoff family has been making wine here since 1750, so I think they have had plenty of practice to make things perfect. I first visited Dönnhoff in 2006, when I was part of a sommelier trip around German vineyards. It was an amazing experience.

This wine is one of his single vineyard Rieslings from the legendary “Oberhäuser Leistenberg” vineyard close to the winery. The wine is characterful, highly aromatic, and fresh with lovely, citrus oil and floral notes. Great as an aperitif, but also delicious with light appetisers. Best enjoyed chilled and in a convivial atmosphere.
