Description

Roving Sommelier is passionate about premium quality French regional wines. Personally speaking, I think a good well-made Loire Valley Gamay, especially those from the Touraine region can be equally as rewarding as a fine Beaujolais, and also great value for money.

Current owner-winemaker Nicolas is at least the sixth generation of the Deniau family to farm this property located in Touraine. It was only in the 1970s that his father Michel extended the vineyard through the purchase of a further 16 hectares and converted the farmland to vineyards. Nicolas followed in his father’s footsteps into winemaking, and even went one step further to study viticulture and oenology at the Lycée Agricole and Viticole in Amboise.

Nicolas took over the running of the estate in 2020, where he produces quintessential, well-made reds, whites and Crémant sparkling wines. The 2020 La Maison Neuve Gamay is simply light and fresh, as you would expect, and unoaked with deliciously moreish red fruits and supple tannins. It’s basically the kind of uncomplicated red that you just want to drink. Best enjoyed served lightly chilled and in a convivial atmosphere.
