Description

Roving Sommelier is passionate about premium quality regional wines, especially from the Iberian Peninsula. Located in the iconic Douro Valley in Portugal, Quinta do Crasto has gained a fine international reputation for its premium quality wines. Sourced from one of Douro Valley’s most famous producers, this wine brings into perfect harmony the freshness of the Touriga Nacional, the solid structure of the Touriga Franca, the broadness lent by the Tinta Barrocca and the elegant texture of the Tinta Roriz grapes. With great balance and vibrant aromas of red and black berries, this unique wine has good volume and fine structure on the palate, with a finish that is elegant and persistent.

The vineyards are planted on terraces with rows of vines planted up and down the slope on shist soil. The aspect is southeast facing and the age of the vines is 20+ years.

The grapes, chosen from selected plots, were taken to the winery in 22 kg plastic boxes. On arrival in the winery, they were rigorously inspected on a sorting table. The grapes were then destemmed and crushed and transferred into stainless steel tanks where they fermented. The alcoholic fermentation took place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks for five to seven days. The wine was matured 95% in stainless steel vats and 5% in oak barrels.

Although this robust red wine is approachable to drink now, it will continue to age and develop for at least another five years. Best enjoyed at room temperature and in a convivial atmosphere.
