Description
Roving Sommelier is passionate about premium quality regional Italian wines. In addition, Sicily is currently producing some exciting top-quality wines mainly from indigenous varietals which are modern and contemporary, but also respecting their winemaking heritage. Caruso & Minini are a part of new revival in Sicilian wine. Smaller wineries have sprung up in the past decade with private investment and a strong interest in the potential of the native grapes from Sicily. One example is Caruso & Minini. When Mario Manini met Stefano Caruso, it sparked a long-held dream to produce a wine in the historical winemaking region of Marsala in the province of Trapani, Western Sicily.
The estate’s grapes are grown in the vineyards of Giummarella and Cuttaia, located in a hilly area east of Marsala at an altitude of 400 metres above sea level. They focus on traditional varieties which are perfectly suited for the hot Sicilian sun.
The biological (organic) project of the “Naturalmente Bio” range was strongly desired by the new generation of the Caruso family actively involved in the company’s activities. Giovanna and Rosanna, daughters of Stefano Caruso, immediately believed in sustainability both in the countryside and in the company and precisely by carrying forward these ideas they created, together with the oenologists and agronomists, this fresh, youthful and innovative range. On each label, there is a flower present in our organic fields: a symbol of that eco-sustainability.
Made with 100% Nero d’Avola. Grapes are handpicked and fermented in stainless steel tanks, followed by two months ageing of which half of the wine is in small oak barriques (225 litres). The “Naturalmente Bio” Nero d’Avola is very fruit-driven, super fresh and vibrant with a lovely supple texture and balanced finish. Best enjoyed with meat dishes, pasta and artisan cheeses.
