Description

Roving Sommelier is passionate about premium quality regional New Zealand wines. Award-winning sommelier and owner of Roving Sommelier Wines, Robert Giorgione is also a New Zealand Brand Ambassador and is very enthusiastic about the New Zealand vineyards that he represents. Robert is also very keen on premium Hawke’s Bay wines and this new addition fits nicely into his portfolio.

Founded in 1937, Brookfields Vineyards is Hawke’s Bay’s oldest boutique winery, situated alongside the glistening waters of the Tutaekuri River, between Napier and Hastings. The winery was purchased by the current owner and winemaker Peter Robertson, in 1977, who has since transformed Brookfields into a leading winery for New Zealand premium wines.

Purposely built as a winery – Brookfields is built on tradition and sustainability, combining the best techniques from the past and today, to produce exciting wines each year from their own or shared ownership Hawke’s Bay vineyards.

Ohiti translated is the “place of the crossing”. It is where Tamatea and his people crossed the Ngaruroro River. Using Cabernet Sauvignon grapes from vines grown in the shingle flats on Ohiti Estate, Brookfields have produced a wine which is muscular and dark with alluring flavours. It was subsequently aged in French and American oak barrels resulting in a structured and robust red that is very approachable now and can benefit from further ageing. Best enjoyed at room temperature and in a convivial atmosphere.
